Essex swimmers at Paris 2024
Two Paralympic and 1 Olympic Swimmers from Essex attended Paris 2024
- Ellie Challis formerly Colchester Phoenix SC (S3,SB2,SM3)
- Brock Whiston from Barking and Dagenham/ London Disability SC (S8,SB8,SM8)
- Laura Stephens who started swimming at Colchester SC
Challis won Gold in the Women’s S3 50m Backstroke final, setting a new British record with a time of 53.56 seconds. She came 4th in the S3 100m Freestyle with a time of 1.42.75
Whiston made her Paralympic debut at Paris 2024
She won silver in the SB8 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:21.04 narrowly missing out on gold by 1 second. Two days later, she won gold in the SM8 200m individual medley with a time of 2:40.37
Whiston came 4th in the S8 women’s 100m Butterfly with a time of 1:13.69 0.09 behind Alice Tai in 3rd. She came 5th in the S8 women’s 400m freestyle with a time of 5.00.99
Stephens finished 8th in arguably one of the toughest races, the women’s 200m Butterfly with a time of 2.08.82
