Essex County Swimmers Shine at Swim England East Region Open Water Championships

Whitlingham Adventure, Norwich — Sunday 12 July
Essex County swimmers delivered a superb showing at the Swim England East Region Open Water Championships, held at the beautiful Whitlingham Adventure lake in Norwich. Warm, settled weather throughout the day meant ideal racing conditions, with no requirement for wetsuits.

Participation & Representation
Essex brought an impressive and well-balanced squad across all distances:

  • 1 km: 60 swimmers
  • 2 km: 41 swimmers
  •  3 km: 31 swimmers
  • 5 km: 15 swimmers , including 3 para swimmers

A total of 14 Essex clubs were represented, demonstrating the county’s continued strength and depth in open water swimming.

Championship Highlight
The prestigious R. A. Jones Challenge Cup, awarded to the top male swimmer in the 5 km event, was won by Alex Gaydon (Chelmsford SC) — a fantastic achievement and a proud moment for both club and county.
