The new board of Swim England Essex took the occasion of the 2026 Age Group Championships to acknowledge the life-time achievement in volunteering for Essex Swimming, shown by those past-Presidents and dedicated former committee members of board.

Michael Laniyan and Angela Eguakhide (current President and Secretary), gave the following speech:

“Today is not just about medals, times or podium finishes. Today is about the people who have built the foundations that makes it all possible.

The success of aquatics in Essex did not happen overnight. It has been shaped, protected, and strengthened by individuals who have given their time – consistently and wholeheartedly – over decades.

Between them, out honourees have contributed more than a century of service. That’s countless meetings, championships, governance reforms, safeguarding decisions, and all those quiet, unseen moments that keeps our sport moving forward. They have guided Essex through change – through the transitions from ASA to Swim England, to Aquatics GB – always adapting governance, licensing, and safeguarding frameworks, and always keeping athletes at the heart of everything we do.

Their impact stretches far beyond this room. Generations of swimmers, coaches and officials have benefitted from their leadership.

Today, we honour several past members of our committee – people who have dedicated so much of their lives to Essex Aquatics.

Because of their work, our pathways are stronger.
Because of their leadership, out governance is better.
Because of their dedication, Essex Aquatics continues to thrive.

On behalf of our county – and generations who have come through our programme – thank you.”
