Intercounties Team Event Essex November
2007
Essex competed for the Essex centenary
Trophy, presented by the county to East
region to celebrate 100 golden years of
Essex swimming. The event in only its second
year was held at Essex’ oldest town (and
England’s oldest town) in Colchester. Essex
was anxious to retain the mantle of Top
regional team as current holders, whilst
equally ambitious to ensure they were the
first winners of this new and handsome
trophy. Essex dominated from start to
finish, although chased all the way by a
powerful Suffolk team. Essex amassed 252
points, beating Suffolk into second place on
222.5 points and Hertfordshire on 204
points. Norfolk with 184.5 points was 4th
with Cambridge fifth on 124 points.

Essex swam to an impressive 16 individual
first places, 14 individual second places
and 9 individual third place positions. This
was followed by 7 relay wins, 6 relay second
places and 3 third places. Essex was represented by swimmers from
Colchester, Romford, Rochford, Harlow,
Halstead, Bo. Southend, Canvey Island,
Chelmsford, Braintree, Thurrock and Witham,
to demonstrate a good mix of teams across
the county. 43 swimmers represented the
county on the day and congratulations go to
our winning team whose effort and desire on
the day was too much for the opposition.
