With 37 event best times achieved at this years championships; Essex
counties 2011 event produced some breathtaking swims. Results have
now been posted to the ASA and the meet declared for British
rankings.
The Top Male/Female overall championship was as always well
contested. In the women’s section, current champion Alyson Fordham
(Romford Town) retained her ladies title yet again and with it a
hand full of event best times, this time holding off a stern
challenge from Jacqui Pipe, now swimming for Southend with 61
points. Third place went jointly to Colchester s Katie Higgon with
55 points. Camilla Allwood from the Clissold Swimming club in
Hackney, East London was best placed guest swimmer (Non Essex).
Camilla totaled 26 points; two points more than her points score
last year when she finished top guest swimmer for the first time.
The Top 18/24 year woman was Michelle Curry from Romford Town, the
newcomer to the masters scene finished with 30 points and held off a
hard fought challenge from Alison George; the Becontree swimmer and
Lauren Costin of Halstead; both who finished with 21 points apiece.
In the Men’s events Thomas Enright from Romford Town SC retained his
Top Overall male crown with 60 points; just 4 points less than his
last year tally. Nick Hunt from Chelmsford SC was the second placed
male athlete on 46 points ahead of Waltham Forests Jeff Hillier;
just a point behind Nick. Top visiting male was Stuart McClellan of
Sudbury with 36 points.
The 50m sprint Freestyle events for men and women are events I
always look forward to and this year I can honestly say that the
events were even better contested. Colchester’s Kenneth Dayman won
the Men’s 18-24 years trophy in a time of 27.19 secs, squeezing out
Dean Brumby of Rochford (27.35). In the event Adrian Fenner (Waltham
Forest), swimming in the 25/29 age group produced a stunning swim of
24.07 to take top honors in the event edging out by a fraction
Martin Lane of Romford swimming in the 35/39 years age group who
made Adrian work all the way to record a time of 24.75. Both men
recorded event best times in the duel of the day. In the women’s
event, the sprint queen came from Becontree for the second year
running. Kelly Hector retained her trophy in a time of 29.07 from
Lauren Costin, Halstead; who recorded a time of 30.93. Kira Neal of
Romford Town, who recorded the fastest woman’s time of the day with
a tremendous 28.60, earned herself a new event best time in the

A special thank you must go to our visiting club swimmers. Many
thanks to all our visitors and we hope you enjoyed the day. Also to
our disabled athletes. In particular Kirsty Stewart from Bexhill
swimming club. Kirsty has yet again graced our championships; this
time following an illness. Kirsty’s smile was evident throughout the
competition and we look forward to these athletes gracing our
championships for many years to come. Your taking part always
enhances our championships and we salute you all.
The County would like to thank Thurrock Swimming club for all their
