CPD opportunities for swimming officials within the region (FINA Rules Updates 2017)

A variety of different opportunities for Technical Officials to attend CPD’s around the region has become available. Some of these CPD’s are mandatory licensing requirements. For more information, click HERE.

County Development Days

Bedfordshire ASA held a great development day for their members recently, offering a variety of courses.

Next up is the Suffolk Dev Day on the 15th October, followed by the Norfolk Dev Day on the 18th November.

Both are great opportunities to attend those ESSENTIAL courses, such as Time to Listen, Team Manager, and Safeguarding. (Please note, everyone needing a DBS check MUST attend the Safeguarding workshop every three years.)

Club Welfare Officers

t is good practice for clubs (with athletes under 18 years) to have at least one Welfare Officer in post, ideally two officers. This is to prevent any gaps in support if one officer is unwell, on holiday, or has a conflict of interest.

These officers need to have attended BOTH a recognised Safeguarding workshop, and the Time to Listen Course. This is to ensure they are suitably prepared to deal with welfare issues within the club.

If your Welfare Officers have not attended these courses, please ensure they book onto them at the earliest convenience by contacting

Does your Meet Comply with ASA Laws and Regulations?

There seems to be some confusion about the minimum ages for the various levels of competition. The minimum ages for competition are detailed in Regulation 410 of the 2017 ASA Handbook (pages 105/106) Found HERE

When organising competitions, whether they are licensed or not, promoters and organisers MUST ensure that the competitions are run under ASA Laws and Regulations, and this includes compliance with minimum ages.

East Region- Change of Name

Following the re-brand of ASA to Swim England earlier this year, the region has given consideration to a request from Swim England for the region to adopt similar branding.  The region has decided to use the name ‘Swim England East Region’ for trading purposes, replacing the current ‘East Swimming’.  The ASA East Region name and ‘e’ logo, will be retained, for constitutional purposes.

We have much stock so will be adopting a ‘replenish’ rather than ‘replace’ policy, so as not to waste resources.

A role out process, including dates, is being finalised, and we shall keep all members up to date with the changes.  Until this time, please continue to use the ‘e’ logo, name and branding.

Team Manager Presenters

If you would like to help with the roll out of Team Manager training in your county, please get in touch. We are looking for more volunteers to help enable this workshop to be delivered throughout the region. All resources are provided and mileage will be reimbursed.
