Open Water Officials Course – 11 March 2017

An Open Water Judge Level 1 course will be running during the London Region Open Water Talent Development Camp on 11th March 2017 at London Acquatic Centre Stratford.

Open Water Coach Observation Opportunity
Coaches are invited to attend to observe at both days of the Regional Open Water Talent Camp 2017.
Day 1 – 11th March, London Acquatic Centre – long course, land and theory sessions.
Day 2 – 18th/19th June, West Reservoir, Stoke Newington  – theory and lake sessions,

London Swimming at Amiens Open Meet

London Region once again took the opportunity to give some of the Region’s swimmers some early long course training and competition experience, by sending a team to the Amiens Open Meet in France.
The team this year consisted of 26 swimmers and 5 staff, with the team having a full range of experience from Olympic finalists (Aimee Willmott) through to age groupers who made their first Nationals last summer ( Pietro Lombardo). All of the swimmers made finals in most of their events the team came away with 14 gold, 8 silver & 9 bronze places.

County Coaching/Team Manager Conference London & East ….

The ASA England Programmes Team is delivering a conference, aimed at both Coaches and Team Managers.

This is an excellent opportunity for coaches and team managers to access technical and non- technical information specifically relating to age – group swimming. Attendance at the conference will allow coaches and team managers to develop a greater awareness of the critical role that they need to play in the development of our aspiring young swimmers.
The conference is being hosted by the East Region and will be held on the 18th March at Chippenham Village Hall, CB7 5PR.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided to all delegates. The cost for a place will be;
– free to those coaches and team managers helping deliver the County Camps
– £10 charge for delegates from a swim21 club
– £20 charge for delegates from a non-swim21 club

ASA/NSPCC Time to Listen workshop 
A Time to listen workshop has been arranged for
Sunday 26 March 2017 10.30am – 1.30pm at Heston Pools & Fitness, New Heston Rd, Hounslow,
Heston TW5 0LW.
If you are interested in attending please email londonbookings@swimming.org 
Places will be limited and there will be a £10 charge.

The Time to Listen workshop provides the opportunity to acquire key knowledge necessary for the role and responsibilities of a Club Welfare Officer, to adopt a child-focused approach to safeguarding and to learn about the action/s which should be taken should any incident occur. In order to attend this course, the pre-requisite of having attended either the Sports Coach UK Safeguarding & Protecting Children course (or valid equivalent) must be met.

2017 Regional Open Water Competition

Date: Sunday 2nd July 2017
Venue: Surrey Quays Watersports Centre, Rotherhithe, London SE16 (same venue as last year and close to Canada Water/Surrey Quays)  

Distances: 1 km Taster, 1.5Km (National Qualifying event for 12-14 year age group), 3 Km (National Qualifying event for 15-16 year age-group), 5Km (National Qualifying event for 17-18 , 19+ age groups)

Sport and Recreation Alliance – Community Sports Awards 

The Sports and Recreation Alliance have announced the 2017 round of Community Sport and Recreation Awards are now open.

The Community Sport and Recreation Awards recognise grassroots projects which provide opportunities for people of all backgrounds to develop new skills, make lifelong friends and have fun.
From schools and local clubs through to community schemes, the awards recognise some of the great work which has taken place over the past year.
