Essex Water Polo Report

This past few months has been really great for Essex Water Polo. Our U14s were invited to compete in the London Region Inter Counties and won every game in the tournament to be crowned winners. Every player is going through the Essex Regional Training Centre where coaches from all Essex water polo clubs and Ipswich coach the best players from these clubs on a Friday night at BSV. Well done and thank you to all involved.

The senior men and women’s Essex team played in the East Region Senior Inter Counties, hosted at Luton Inspire, and due to higher level competition being held around the country both our teams were not as strong as they could have been.

Our County President, Henry, came and watched the Men’s tournament on the Saturday and I don’t think was disappointed by what he saw. The men’s team played some great team water polo and ended up winning for the 3rd year in a row.

The women’s tournament was held the following day, and they too were playing to retain their crown having won it for the first time the year before. With all teams finishing on the same points after some really close games, Essex women were too declared champions. With only one club in Essex that has a women’s team and so has to travel to London to play any league games, this is a fantastic achievement that we need to make sure we can continue.

Last weekend we had 2 kids representing Great Britain in the U17 European Qualifiers. Dani Brazier from Chelmsford for the girls and James Warman for the boys. The GB Girls came 2nd in their group and are now in the Baku Europeans being held in Azerbaijan. Unfortunately the boys lost 8-7 against Malta, in Malta, came 3rd which means they just missed out. Congratulations to both of these players, and I’ll keep you posted about Dani’s exploits at the Europeans.
